Best Places to Surf in Honolulu

Tourists from all over the world come to Honolulu for the culture, environment, and most importantly, the surfing. But where do the locals say are the best places to surf? After some intense research, we believe we’ve come up with the perfect list.

  1. Kawela Bay

Kawela Bay (also known as Turtle Bay) is one of the most secluded beaches on Oahu. It’s not known for its large waves, but if you’re a beginner and just want to test out the waters, this is the perfect place to try. It’s also one of the best places on the island to do some snorkeling, offering visitors the chance to catch a glimpse of a honu (Hawaiian green sea turtle).

  1. Waimea Bay

Waimea Bay is a legendary surfing location on the North Shore. It was an influential surf spot during the dawn of big wave surfing back in the 1950s. If you’re looking for some great barrels to test out your surfing nerves, check out Waimea Bay.

  1. Sunset

Sunset beach is probably one of the most popular surfing locations in Honolulu, which means you’ll probably see a lot of tourists. Sunset beach makes up for it though with big waves, beautiful scenery, and the fact that it is the longest stretch of rideable surf spots in the world.

  1. Banzai Pipeline

Banzai Pipeline is not for the light hearted. In fact, it’s one of the most dangerous surf spots in the world. But it’s popular amongst the pros because of the powerful waves and large barrels. If you think you can handle a little danger, check out Banzai Pipeline.

Best Cars for Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse

  1. Dodge Challenger Hellcat

Until the movie “28 Days Later” came out in 2002, zombies were pretty slow and easy to escape. Just in case zombies end up being the next Usain Bolt, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat is your best chance of escaping their crazy agility skills. With the power of 707 horses, the walking dead won’t be able to keep up.

  1. Jeep Wrangler

Perfect for the survivor on the run, there is no limit to where you can go in the Jeep Wrangler. Does the road end right when you’re trying to escape from a squad of zombies? Not an issue in the Jeep Wrangler! Whether it’s rocky terrain or a grassy field, the Jeep Wrangler is perfect for a post-apocalyptic world.

  1. Ram 3500

Not only does this beast have the best diesel engine compared to all other trucks, but when you flip the Ram into electric generator mode it generates enough electricity to power four average American homes! You’ll be able to crash this beast into a sea of zombies and still go home and cozy up at the end of the day with all the electricity you’re creating.

Waipahu Schools Experience

We recently had the experience of working with Waipahu Schools in helping them receive the benefit of having air-conditioning units in their schools. The hot season is approaching and we understand how difficult it  can be being both a teacher and a student in a humid classroom. We were able to enable the installation of air-conditioning units in 12 classrooms at Waipahu Elementary, Kaleiopuu Elementary, August Ahrens Elementary, and Honowai Elementary schools.

Jarrett Cutter was able to meet Ahrens Elementary first-grade teacher, Genciana Aczon, as shown above. Jarret Cutter stated “Standing in classrooms during the middle of the day was challenging, and watching children sit in front of fans, many with sweat dripping down their faces, was really disheartening.”

We’re so grateful that we were able to have this experience with the schools and know that we’re better helping the next generation of students in their studies.

Thank you to everyone that helped us with this wonderful project, Fujitsu Hawaii for donating several air-conditioning units and exhaust fans; KM Electric for doing the electrical connections; and Airmasters Hawaii for installing the units. We loved working with everyone on this project and for helping make Hawaiian schools a much better place for our children.

Fun Facts about FIAT

Fun Facts about FIAT

FIAT is known for its unique and fun style of cars. The company was first based in Italy, but FIAT S.p.A merged with the US in 2014 and is now FCA US (previously Chrysler LLC). For being such a fun and interesting company, we decided to share some fun facts about FIAT.

  1. FIAT Used to Manufacture Carriages and Railway Engines

FIAT was founded in 1899 and during that time they started out making carriages and engines for trains. They also worked a lot with the military, especially during WWII, where they worked on building military vehicles and plane engines for the Italian army.

  1. FIAT Has Acquired Multiple Other Automakers

FIAT acquired Lancia in 1968, became the shareholder of Ferrari in 1969, took control of Alfa Romeo from the Italian government in 1986, purchased Maserati in 1993, and became the full owner of Chrysler Group LLC in 2014. I don’t know if you can tell but they definitely have a lot on their plate.

  1. The FIAT 500 was one of the Smallest Cars in the World

With a length of 127 inches, the width of 50 inches, and a height of 54 inches, the small car gained the nickname “topolino” which means, little mouse. Topolino is also the Italian name given to Disney’s Mickey Mouse. If you put the two side by side, they complement each other perfectly.

  1. The FIAT 500L has an Optional Coffee Maker

Italy is known for their coffee, so why wouldn’t an Italian brand put an espresso machine right in their car? In 2012 FIAT did just that with the 500L which can be fitted with an integrated espresso machine. Having to wait for your coffee in the morning has become a thing of the past with technology like this.

The Jeep Wrangler was one of the first cars that Jeep came out with in 1987 and has always been a fan favorite. But why are they so loved by everyone? We decided to make it simple for you and put together a short list about why you should invest in a Jeep Wrangler.

  1. Off-roading

You haven’t lived until you’ve been off-roading with a group of friends. It gives you a rush that you’ve never experienced before, like a sense of freedom. The Jeep Wrangler was ranked #1 in Best Off-Road Vehicles by PopularMechanics. Every ride in the Jeep Wrangler is an adventure, and here in Hawaii we have some of the best locations to drive one.

2. Fully Customizable

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the easiest cars to customize to your own style. Whether it’s a difference in the wheels, color, headlights, or even the interior, Jeep Wrangler makes it easy for you. Companies like Mopar have unique accessories to fit your needs, like Mopar WiFi connection.

3. Unique Styling

Have you ever had a hard time deciding whether you wanted an open ceiling car like a convertible, but didn’t want to be tied down by weather changes? That’s where Jeep Wrangler comes in. Because of its unique style, you get the feature of both an SUV and a convertible, so you can enjoy those Hawaiian sun rays but still be protected from the rain.

Why We Live in the Most Vacationed Spot in the World

Many people dream of visiting Hawaii at some point in their lives, and some Hawaiian locals haven’t seen some of the most beautiful spots on the island. Being a tourist is completely different from being a local. Some of us may have never been to some of the top tourist locations. We’ve put together a short list of some of the most popular spots in Hawaii to help you become a tourist for a day and see why our island is one of the most beautiful places in the world

1. Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay is one of the most famous places on the entire island for snorkeling. When you arrive at Hanauma Bay, you’re shown a short video about the marine life and the history of the bay. It’s a relaxing, learning experience that everyone will enjoy.

2. Honolulu Chinatown

Just like any large Chinatown, Honolulu’s Chinatown is always busy, energetic, and fun part of the city. With fresh market fruits, meats, and fish, you’ll feel like you’re walking through a completely different country. Chinatown also has its authentic food that will have you craving for more.

3. Diamond Head

Hawaii is most known for its views and hikes, and Diamond Head is one of the most popular. Diamond Head is the iconic former volcano that stands at the eastern side of Waikiki, and is one of the main reasons people visit Honolulu.

4. Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona

Pearl Harbor is more of a memorial than it is an attraction, but it plays a major part in United States history. It was here that a Japanese aircraft made a surprise bomb attack on US ships in 1941. It’s a chilling and eerie place to visit, but it’s also an uplifting and amazing learning experience.

5. Waikiki

Waikiki is the most touristy and famous area of Honolulu. With many high rise hotels and resorts by the beach, you’ll feel like you just jumped into a postcard of the island. Even though it’s a huge tourist spot, there’s still some local secrets about the area. There’s a park called Ala Moana beach that’s great for swimming and exercising, but is rarely overrun by tourists.

We love where we live and we love all the beauty it has to offer. Do you have any local secrets or favorite spots on the island?

Why we love the Dodge Journey

Driving your family around all day can be a chore. We understand.

What if we were to tell you that there is a way to ease that burden? Shouldn’t there be as much joy in the journey as there is in the destination?

Of course there should be! To families suffering from drive-aphobia, we prescribe the Dodge Journey Crossover SUV, the perfect SUV for family travel.

Dodge named this little SUV the Journey for a reason: it is built to bring families long distances comfortably and efficiently. The interior has plenty of space and offers a comfortable arrangement for everyone. Seats fold in any which way to help make room for extra cargo. The kids will enjoy having an electric outlet in the back so that their devices never run out of charge. And did we mention there’s a drink cooler, too?

Those things may suffice for the kids, but the adults get a little something extra: dual-zone automatic temperature control, interior leather trim, and the available navigation system to name a few. You guessed it, the Journey is a comfortable ride.

Daily driving tends to burn up a lot fuel, but the Dodge Journey is an exception. With 26-mpg and a 500-mile range on the gas tank, you’re sure save a little money on gas during the drive. The available 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine will also help you power through any inclement weather or steep hills you may encounter.

Cart your family around in style and efficiency in the Dodge Journey. Your family will love you for it!

Five emergency essentials for your car

Contrary to popular belief, we are all not invincible. No matter how carefully we drive or how well we take care of our cars, something will inevitably happen. It could happen tomorrow, it could happen ten years from now, but what matters is how prepared you are when the time comes. Storing a few essentials in your car can make a world of difference, so consider throwing these in your shopping cart the next time you’re at the store:

1. Jumper cables. As you may know from experience, it is difficult to find someone who both has the time and the necessary jumper cables to come bail out your car when the battery dies. Keeping a set of jumper cables in the car may be unsightly, but they’ll get you out of a tight spot quickly.

2. First-aid kit. It’s always good to have a few medical supplies handy for family outings. A decent first-aid kit should include Band-Aids, antiseptic ointments, gauze, and so forth.

3. Tire gauge. Make a habit of checking your tire pressure periodically while at the gas station. A little effort can save you a lot of trouble when you suddenly discover your tire is flat. Don’t forget to check the spare, too.

4. Duct tape. We joke about the seemingly endless uses of duct tape, but a spare roll can come in handy in a pinch.

5. Poncho. Yes, they are a complete fashion disaster, but they will keep you dry if you need to change a tire in the middle of a Hawaiian rainstorm. You will never be so grateful for a cheap plastic sarape again

The Perfect Hawaiian Car

People often ask us at which car is a best-fit for living in Hawaii. This is a difficult question to answer because everyone has different preferences and lifestyles that cannot all be accommodated by one single car.

But after narrowing down the options, we have come up with what we feel is the perfect choice: the Jeep Wrangler.

We chose the Jeep Wrangler because it is is the best fit for most people’s preferences, especially for those that want to enjoy Hawaii’s weather. The open top, for example, allows you to enjoy the sunshine or dry off quickly after a day at the beach.

The Wrangler’s off-road capabilities are the perfect fit for those with a taste for adventure. Jeeping is a popular activity in Hawaii, and being able to hit the trails at your leisure is a major plus.

Hawaii is small, and everything in hawaii tends to be small. You may beed a bigger car for moving, shopping, storage, and so forth, but parking is anything but a cakewalk. The Jeep Wrangler happens to be big enough for any chore, yet is small enough to park just about anywhere.

There is no other vehicle we could think of that fits the active Hawaiian lifestyle. We hope this makes your next purchase decision a little easier to make!
