It first came to light in 1899 when a group of investors decided to create a manufacturing company on their own. In fact, today Brazil sees FIAT as the car market leader and the second most cars from FIAT are produced in Brazil itself, Italy produces the most.

  1. FIAT Didn’t Manufacture Cars at First

In the past, FIAT manufactured carriages, railway engines, tractors, military vehicles and aircrafts. During World War II, FIAT was involved in the manufacturing of military vehicles and machinery for the Italian Army, Regia Aeronautica and eventually for the Germans.

  1. FIAT Won the European Car of the Year award

In 2008, the FIAT 500 became the second FIAT model to win the award. The first award was given to the FIAT 124 in 1967.


  1. FIAT Owns Many Different Subsidiaries

FIAT is also a parent company to many different subsidiaries. The businesses that FIAT owns include:

  • Alfa Romeo

  • Chrysler

  • Dodge

  • Ferrari

  • Iveco

  • Lancia

  • Maserati

In January 2014, FIAT decided to create another company merging the assets of both Chrysler and FIAT groups, now called FIAT-Chrysler Automobiles.
